I started using these bottles for my daughter right from birth and have continued to use them ever since, adjusting the teats as she developed. They’ve never let me down!

The bottles are great quality and incredibly affordable. I also love the colour-changing heat detection system that tells me if the milk is too hot.

These are game changing. To be able to go into the dark room and not have to feel around everywhere searching for the soother is awesome.

The questions you may have

How do I choose the right soother?

Opt for a soother shape that is gentle on teeth, jaw and palate*: curved to nestle against the palate, flat and curved inwards to leave room for the tongue, and extra-thin so that lips can close almost completely.

Does a soother damage teeth?

A soother won’t cause long-term dental issues if you choose a shape that is gentle on teeth, jaw and palate*. Keep in mind these three aspects:

  • A very soft upper side that nestles smoothly against the palate
  • Extra flat, to leave room for the tongue
  • An extra-thin neck so that lips can close almost completely
Can a soother help reduce the risk of SIDS?

Using a soother at bedtime may help reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), as it helps keep airways clear. Even though the soother can be a wonderful ally, always keep in mind the essential rules for safe sleep: baby on their back, in a safe, cosy cot. For advice specific to your baby, talk to your midwife, Plunket nurse or doctor.

What are NUK soothers made of?

Our soothers in New Zealand are made from silicone. It’s durable, easy to clean and heat-resistant, so it stands up well to sterilising. Check your baby’s soother regularly and replace it if you see any wear or damage.

How do I choose the right bottle?

Material & size: decide between glass (pure and scratch-resistant) and plastic (light and resistant), based on your baby’s age and appetite. Tip: start with small bottles and size up if needed.

Teat flow & shape: match the flow to your baby’s age, with slower flow for newborns and faster flow for older babies. Start with slow-flow teats (size S) and size up if needed. A typical sign to size up is when your baby seems frustrated. If milk leaks out of your baby’s mouth, that usually means the flow is too fast, and a slower flow can be tried.

How does the NUK temperature control indicator work?

The NUK temperature control indicator shows at a glance when the correct temperature for feeding has been reached. The scale on the baby bottle changes colour depending on the temperature of the contents. If the food is too hot, the normally blue indicator changes to white. Important: the indicator acts as an additional check only. Always test the temperature of warm drinks with a few drops on your wrist. Ideally, the liquid should be at body temperature (37°C = medium blue).

Can I prepare baby’s bottle ahead of time?

It’s always best to prepare the bottle just before feeding. We advise against making bottles too far in advance, as bacteria can grow. If you must prepare one ahead, refrigerate it straight away and use it within the hour.

How do I manage bottles on the go?

For warm feeds, pack hot water in a thermos and keep the milk powder in a separate dispenser, then mix them just before your little one is ready to feed. For cool sips, a small bottle of water works perfectly.
